Epsom salts have a high level of magnesium which is said to have natural, anti-inflammatory properties. By reducing inflammation in our tissue and muscles, back pain and other gripes can be alleviated.
Floating is also said to promote vasodilation in our bodies which is the process of our blood vessels dilating and, in turn, allowing for better blood flow as well as lowering high blood pressure.
Floating also reduces feelings of stress and anxiety. This is said to be down to the relaxing environment as well as the salt infused waters.
Those who float are said to absorb much more magnesium into their systems (soaked up from the salt water), which is said to be beneficial because magnesium lowers the production of ACTH which is useful, as ACTH drives the production of the stress hormone; cortisol.
Also, the reduction in cortisol in our bodies means we also benefit from better quality sleep - we essentially find it easier to relax and fall into a deeper sleep.
Floating can also help develop our ability to relax within ourselves meaning, our central nervous systems become better balanced leading to better quality sleep patterns.
Some studies have also shown that floating can help to slow down our brain activity, allowing us to reach an activity level similar to the first stage of sleep - this is the stage where our bodies regenerate and our blood pressure drops.
Floating can also help to improve physical and athletic performance. It is said to compliment sport’s massage and physiotherapy sessions, by cleaning out lactic acid from our systems and quickly allowing our bodies to bounce back faster.
With complete sensory deprivation and a relaxing environment to boot, floating is said to help improve our ability to meditate and maintain better mindfulness.
